Clemson's Avieon Terrell is one of the top cornerback prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft, despite being undersized for the position. The younger brother of Atlanta Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell, Avieon makes up for his smaller frame in just about every other area of his game, bringing a strong blend of physical and mental traits to the table that should make him a first-round pick.
Here's everything NFL fans need to know about Terrell heading into this year's draft:
Height: 5-11
Weight: 180
Age: 21
Don’t let the size fool you; Terrell is a feisty cover man who punches well above his weight class. He’s physical and competitive from the line of scrimmage to the catch point, and has the ball skills and confidence to challenge bigger receivers on 50/50 balls. He’s got impressive lateral quickness and short-area burst that allows him to change directions at the drop of a hat, and his combination of smooth footwork and fluid hips keep in phase against even the most polished route-runners. He tracks the ball extremely well on deep throws, and he shows the awareness and explosiveness to excel in zone coverage. Terrell is a smart defender who can quickly decipher route combinations and put himself in the best position to make a play on the ball.
While his physical style of play is commendable, Terrell could have durability questions at the next level if he wants to keep playing that brand of football against NFL competition that’s bigger, faster and stronger than what he faced at the college level. His tendency to gamble in pursuit of takeaways can leave him vulnerable to giving up big plays downfield when he guesses wrong, and more polished receivers will challenge his length and hand usage at the line of scrimmage. He’s a willing tackler in the run game, but his technique needs plenty of work if he wants to mitigate his lack of size in the pros.
He’s got some obvious physical limitations that might drop him down the board for some teams, but Terrell’s competitiveness, athleticism and ball skills are still starting-caliber traits. If he can stay healthy and clean up his technique a bit, Terrell has plenty of upside for any defense that can overlook his lack of size in favor of the versatility and playmaking potential he brings.
