The Cincinnati Bengals have signed another college free agent in former Rutgers safety Shaquan Loyal.

To make room for Loyal on the 90-man offseason roster, Cincinnati has waived cornerback Micah Abraham.

Loyal was one of the original names early reports linked to the Bengals following the 2025 NFL Draft, but the team did not include him in their initial list of UDFA signings last week. It's unclear if Loyal was present at rookie minicamp as a tryout player.

A New Jersey native through and through, Loyal spent all four years of his college career at Rutgers and started 28 games at safety. He produced 176 tackles, 12 passes defensed, eight tackles for loss, and four interceptions including a with a pick-six. He was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection in his senior season in 2024.

Loyal is the only safety the Bengals have added to their roster this offseason. They allowed the contract of Vonn Bell to expire at the start of free agency, and they've kept the six safeties already in the locker room including Geno Stone. Cincinnati did force Stone to take a pay cut last week, reducing his cash and salary cap hit by about $1.5 million.

As a UDFA, Loyal's deal will be three years in length with salaries reflecting the minimum amount. It also likely involves a signing bonus, representing the only guaranteed money in the deal.

Abraham was originally signed to the Bengals' practice squad last October and stayed there for the duration of the regular season. He was brought back by the club on a futures contract in January. His departure leaves nine cornerbacks on the roster. The only addition to that room was Bralyn Lux, another UDFA signing the team made last week.
