Blue Jays select Jordan Rich 502nd overall

With their 17th-round pick, the Blue Jays have selected Jordan Rich, a prep outfielder from American Heritage School in Florida.

Rich stands at 5’10”, 175 lbs. The outfielder is from Hollywood, Florida. He attended American Heritage and is currently committed to Miami-Dade College. There’s still room to grow into his frame. In terms of speed, he ran a 7.05-second 60-yard dash and is a better-than-average runner.

Take high school numbers with a grain of salt, but Rich slashed .393/.493/723, good for a 1.216 OPS in 138 plate appearances to go along with 7 home runs and 26 RBI. He also swiped 38 bases in just 35 games. He’s a gifted athlete and has dabbled as a two-way player, but his future is in the outfield..

This pick seemed to be a hedge pick, but shortly after he was drafted, Rich donned a Blue Jays cap on his Instagram story, a good indication that there could be an agreement in place. He represents another upside play by the Blue Jays, who have gone for ceiling in this draft thus far, especially on the position player front. It’s been a very good return on paper for Marc Tramuta, who’s handling his first draft as the Blue Jays’ scouting director.
