The Clippers have decided to waive 2024 second-round pick Cam Christie, according to reports from Shams Charania of ESPN and Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (Twitter links). The team has officially announced the transaction (Twitter link).
Christie’s $2,296,271 salary for 2026/27 was non-guaranteed, so the Clippers won’t be on the hook for any of that money. That amount would have become fully guaranteed if the third-year guard had been retained through Thursday (October 15) after he and the team agreed twice earlier in the offseason to push that back that guarantee date.
Considering that the Clippers have 15 other players on guaranteed contracts, it’s no surprise they decided to cut Christie loose. If he’s not claimed, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent. However, it’s not out of the question he could return to the Clippers, as they have an two-way opening available.
Christie, who is still just 21 years old, appeared in 55 games last season for the organization. He averaged 2.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per contest. Christie has shot poorly in his limited appearances — in 68 career games, he’s made 36.8 percent of his overall attempts and 22.6 of his 3-point tries.
