Country singer Pat Green revealed the loss of his close family members after the flooding in Kerrville, Texas.
"Over the weekend, during the devastating flooding that hit Central Texas, family—like so many others—suffered a heartbreaking and deeply personal loss. We are grieving alongside countless Texans whose lives have been upended by this tragedy," wrote the 53-year-old San Antonio native on Instagram.
His wife, Kori Green, wrote in a separate post, "We are so thankful for the outpouring of love and concern. Pat’s little brother John, his wife, Julia, and two of their children were swept away in the Kerrville flood. We are heartbroken and anxiously waiting for all of them to be found."
John and Julia Burgess, who lived in Liberty, Texas, brought their family to the Blue Oak RV Park to celebrate the July 4th holiday weekend. Lorena Guillen, the owner of the Kerr County RV park, reported seeing John clinging to a tree to stay alive.
"My husband was in the water trying to ask them, ‘Please throw me your baby!’ The man was holding tight to his babies, and he just got swept away," Guillen said.
Guillen reported that all 28 RVs at the park were destroyed in the catastrophic flooding that morning.
“We heard people screaming throughout the night,” she said. “The cabins from the RV park next door came floating, and they were getting smashed against the trees."
The RV park nearby reported 40 missing people, while eight people were recovered on Guillen's propert on Sunday. The total death toll reached 109 people, as of Tuesday.
“I think they did the best they could with what they had. The river flooding authorities not having a budget enough to have censors and alarms installed — that’s the part that should have been changed. Without having a budget or resources, their hands are tied as well,” Guillen said.
