Coach Jay Johnson started his press conference out by giving credit to the Little Rock Trojans. He said,
“Great job by Little Rock today. Winning two games against two great teams, and you’ve got to tip your hat to them. They took a lot of good at-bats throughout the day. I watched their entire first game as it was transpiring and it was a complete performance by them. I think our game tonight kind of speaks for itself where it got away from us and we’ll leave it here tonight, turn all our focus to tomorrow and find a way to play great.”
Johnson was asked if he thought the pressure has gotten to the team. He said, “I think it’s probably an individual question. I wouldn’t say that as a team. Some guys on the mound didn’t perform probably the way that they wanted to or maybe to the point that they’re capable of…I didn’t sense a widespread panic or anything like that in the dugout. Credit them [Little Rock], they made some big pitches with runners on base, and we gave them a lot of free bases and they cashed in.”
Johnson also talked about his team’s inability to capitalize on a number of scoring opportunities. He said, “Yeah, I thought they executed a few good pitches at key times…We have a saying, ‘trying to do too much is not a plan’. And so, it’s probably the guys who were in those spots. I'll go back to them and just make sure they’re locked in to their process and use it as a learning experience. And that’s what we try to do. I’m confident that they can do that. Our players have done a good job this year of bouncing back after a tough game, both individually and collectively and it gives me great confidence about what they can do tomorrow.”
