In the coming hours every reporter will be seeking updates from the ongoing talks between Manchester United and Lokomotiv Moscow over the future of Ralf Rangnick.

We could possibly see a breakthrough today since the Russian club’s chairman, Alexander Plutnik, pretty much opened the door for Rangnick’s move to Old Trafford.

The Lokomotiv suit insists they will be ‘fine’ if the 63-year-old jumps ship.

“Things will be good,” Plutnik said before Lokomotiv Moscow’s 3-0 Europa League, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“We are now focused on the game [against Lazio]. We will think after the match. Everything will be fine.”

The Athletic were first outlet with the news on Thursday that United and Rangnick had come to an agreement on the interim position, with the German expressing his desire to move into a consultancy role at the end of the season.

This is a coach who has shaped coaching in the Bundesliga from his time with Schalke, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig – so there will be questions over whether he can have a similar impact on English football. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel were both inspired by Rangnick’s teaching, so this looks like a shrewd appointment.
