Strengths

  • Enough athletic ability to drop and operate into space
  • Sufficient athlete with solid agilities and COD
  • Good overall footwork in pass-rush
  • Hands + feet work well when rushing passer
  • Heavy – violent – hands when he rears back to rush
  • Good use of hands up the arc

  • Opportunistic against lazy OL
  • Quick processor – reads and attacks
  • Difficult read defender in Z/R & option attack
  • Well-timed and fluid spin move
  • Good timing/ability as looper
  • Versatility to kick inside on passing situations
  • Solid overall run defender (hindered by length)
  • Firm ability and good lower-body strength to set the edge
  • Plays well through contact with good vision
  • Elite competitive toughness and motor
  • Does not stop till the whistle
  • Flashed special teams ability – blocked punt in Week 11 vs. Purdue

Weaknesses

  • Wildly short arms – zero percentile
  • Undersized in general
  • Average burst/explosiveness
  • Isn’t a dynamic athlete – only modest bend
  • Average strength at the POA when shedding
  • Doesn’t have a “go to” pass rush move that wins
  • Below-average counter moves once he’s stopped
  • Was ejected against Marshall for targeting
  • Was a one year starter

Summary

Caden Curry is a high motor player with less than ideal athletic ability and zero percentile arm-length. His effort & hustle are elite, which – coupled with solid hand usage – allows him to harass as a pass rusher.

Curry is strong enough, and possesses enough technical savvy, to be a solid run defender that can set the edge, despite shorter arms.

The man’s hair is on fire as a player, which will endear him to coaching staffs across the NFL.

Overall, Curry isn’t a dynamic athlete and his measurables are sub-optimal with abysmal arm length – this will drop him down draft boards. Still, he’s solid depth and a special teams player who can earn snaps on defense due to his adequate overall tool-kit and competitive toughness.
