Oregon vs Rutgers Prediction: Can the Scarlet Knights Stun the Ducks?

Short memory … one bad moment … play the next game …

Oregon has to blow off the loss to Indiana in a hurry because Rutgers is just good enough to pull off something crazy.

The Scarlet Knights are on a three-game losing streak, with the promising season slipping away fast. They’ve been competitive, but the defense is struggling, and the offense hasn’t been consistent enough to get by.

With three of the next four games on the road - including dates at Ohio State and Illinois - this is a must-win moment.

The Ducks will continue to criss-cross the country with Wisconsin up next, and then a trip to Iowa before closing out with the final three games in the Pacific Time Zone.

Why Oregon Will Win

Rutgers has done a whole lot of traveling lately.

It went 1,200 miles to Minneapolis, flew back to Piscataway, had a week off, flew almost 3,000 miles to Seattle, flew back ot Piscataway, and now it has to deal with the best team it's had to face so far.

The Scarlet Knights aren't doing a thing on the ground, relying solely on the passing attack to keep things moving.

he passing game is doing just fine, but the line gives up way too many plays behind the line, the defense isn't helping with takeaways or stops, and Oregon isn't going to make the mistakes to help the cause.

It doesn't get penalized, two of the three turnovers on the year came against Indiana, and ...

Why Rutgers Will Win

Oregon has done a whole lot of traveling lately.

It flew over 2,000 miles to Chicago to face Northwestern, flew back to Eugene, dealt with the rivalry game against Oregon State, flew 2,700 miles to State College to face Penn State, flew back to Eugene to face Indiana, flew back to Eugene, and now it has to fly 3,000 miles to Piscataway.

The Ducks might not make a ton of mistakes, but Rutgers won't give up any help - it doesn't get flagged enough to matter, and it only gave up three turnovers on the year.

The only way to battle the Oregon defense is to get the short passing game going. Forget about the running attack, and that's fine with Rutgers.

Athan Kaliamakis is sixth in the nation in passing yards per game, averaging close to 300 yards every time out. He'll keep pressing the Duck secondary, but ...

How Sharp WIll Oregon Be?

It's not like Oregon had to deal with life after a loss last year - it didn't drop a game until the Rose Bowl against Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.

Don't expect anything fancy.

The Ducks will start pounding right away against a Rutgers defensive front that's allowing close to five yards per carry, and will get hit with close to six yards per run in this.

Rely on the lines, own third downs, get back home for the week off against Wisconsin.
