Quinn Ewers Gets More Competition as Dolphins Bring in 10,000-Yard QB
Ricardo B. Brazziell/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK

There likely wasn't a better landing spot for Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers than the Miami Dolphins.

Although no one expected him to fall to the seventh round and be the 14th quarterback taken in this year's weak class, he will be in a Miami system that is similar to the one he had so much success with at Texas.

The Dolphins also have a clear starter in Tua Tagovailoa, which means Ewers can sit and learn. With a weak quarterback room around him, as former Jets flameout Zach Wilson is also vying for the QB2 spot, Ewers has as good a chance to be the No. 2 signal caller immediately.

However, neither Wilson nor Ewers is guaranteed to be the guy just yet, and the Dolphins are evaluating all of their options. On Thursday, the team announced the signing of former Miami of Ohio quarterback, Brett Gabbert.

The younger brother of former No. 10 overall pick and two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback, Blaine Gabbert, spent six seasons with the RedHawks.

During his time in Oxford, the younger Gabbert threw for 10,814 yards with 80 touchdowns to 30 interceptions. He was named first-team All-MAC this past season, while being named third-team in 2021 and 2023.

This could easily be just another offseason or practice-squad arm, but given where Ewers was drafted, he doesn't have the luxury to take it easy.

The former top recruit who led Texas to two College Football Playoff appearances will have an uphill battle in the NFL, but that doesn't mean he can't be the quarterback he was once projected to be. Although Texas fans are excited for Arch Manning, they will all be cheering on Ewers in Miami.
