Scottie Scheffler may not be leading the Memorial Tournament heading into the weekend, but that hasn’t stopped him from being the center of attention. The world No. 1 and recent PGA Championship winner carded back-to-back 2-under 70s at Muirfield Village, placing him fourth at 4-under, three shots behind leaders Nick Taylor and Ben Griffin.
While his scores haven’t been eye-popping by his high standards, Scheffler stayed focused despite the rainy, tough conditions. “I felt like I was hitting my lines... so 2 under in these conditions was definitely not a bad score today,” he said per the Columbus Dispatch.
But before the serious business of the tournament began, Scheffler had a lighter moment during the pro-am event with none other than NFL legend Peyton Manning.
The two-time Super Bowl champ shared a tee box with Scheffler, and what followed turned into a viral hit. Manning shanked a tee shot so badly that it crashed into a nearby house. Scheffler, watching it all unfold, couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“Good morning, sir,” Scheffler joked after the loud thud echoed through the course, adding with a chuckle, “That’s too much.”

While Manning sheepishly backed away, channeling his inner Homer Simpson meme, Scheffler kept the mood light and didn’t hold back his amusement. The video soon made waves online, with even Eli Manning chiming in, “I’m so proud.”

As for Scheffler, he’s gunning for a repeat Memorial win, aiming to become just the second golfer after Tiger Woods to go back-to-back at the event. After winning the Byron Nelson and PGA Championship earlier in May, he’s once again proving why he’s the man to beat, even if he sometimes plays the role of sideline comedian.
