On September 8, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders took to his Instagram to share some strong words. This post came after his son, Shedeur Sanders, was reported inactive in Week 1 by the Cleveland Browns. Deion’s post read,

“Why do u argue with SMALL minded people? These folks have limits, always complain & consistently play the victim. Keep on thinking the way u do and keep on doing the things u do. You’re a blessing to many & you’re needed, wanted & valued. #CoachPrime”

He then added a caption,

You are the 1, the blessing & the Promise. You’ve got to believe baby. #CoachPrime”

Flacco completed 31 of 45 passes for 290 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, but could not secure the win. Gabriel was listed as QB2 after the team traded Kenny Pickett to the Raiders in August.

Deion Sanders’ son came into the league with serious buzz with 4,134 yards and 37 TDs at Colorado in 2024, Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and a top-10 Heisman finish. However, a mid-August oblique tweak during joint practices with Philly slowed his roll and cut into valuable preseason reps.

Now, Cleveland’s playing the long game with its rookies. If the losses pile up, Gabriel will probably get the first crack at starting snaps, but Shedeur’s shot could come fast.

Deion Sanders’ son Shedeur Sanders’ Spot at Risk as Browns Eye Anthony Richardson Trade

Sports Illustrated reporters Matt Brandon and Ethen Hutton listed the Cleveland Browns as the No. 1 landing spot for Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson. The former fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft recently lost his starting job to Daniel Jones and could be available via trade.

The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room is filled with question marks behind a quarterback likely headed for retirement after this season. Cleveland elected to move on from Kenny Pickett and released Tyler Huntley, leaving rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel behind Joe Flacco,” Brandon and Hutton wrote.

Cleveland’s depth chart currently features Flacco, Gabriel (94th overall pick from Oregon) and Sanders (144th overall pick from Colorado). Richardson’s first-round pedigree and athletic upside would immediately add competition. With Kevin Stefanski’s offensive system in place, the Browns could view Richardson as a higher-ceiling option than their current rookies.
