There’s a reason cornerback Aydan West is one of the top recruits being pursued hard by the WVU football staff.

And fresh off an official visit over the weekend, West talked with WV Sports Now about his recruitment and when he plans to announce his commitment.

West, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound 2025 prospect out of Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg, Md., started the conversation praising West Virginia as a place and as a program. “WVU is a great place. The coaches and players showed a lot of love.,” he said.

He also detailed what he heard from the coaching staff during his most recent trip to Morgantown.

“They feel I am an all around football player and I can play all positions in the back half but my main position is corner.”

West’s versatility makes him an attractive piece to play with for any defense.

An official visit allows recruits to really spend time with everyone involved in the program and truly get a glimpse of what life as a Mountaineer would be like. For West, that experience supports what the current players have been saying about the new and improved culture of the WVU program.

“TJ Crandall was my tour guide. Got to spend time time with the players and it was a good vibe. The DBs didn’t just hang with DBs, the entire team vibed together.”

West is considered a three-star by several major national recruiting outlets, but soaring up the charts as he continues to gain more exposure. Both Rivals and On3 Sports rank West as one of their top 20 players in Maryland.

The West Virginia coaches are in love with his athleticism and know the Maryland product has plenty of options, most notably from other schools within the same region. West narrowed down his list to Cincinnati, Duke, Penn State, Virginia and Wake Forest in addition to WVU on April 28.

West even describes himself as a player who can fit any role.

“I am versatile with being able to play multiple positions . I am a DB that doesn’t mind coming down making the big hit but my cover skills are just as good.”

West Virginia and the other programs on West’s current list beat out the likes of Boston College, Maryland, Pitt and Virginia Tech.

One way or another, WVU will know where they stand with West very soon. West tells WVSN that he will reveal his final decision on June 10.
