A top 2026 in-state target for the Wisconsin basketball staff has transferred out of the state to finish off his high school career.
Vaughn Karvala, a native of Oregon, Wisconsin and a member of Team Herro EYBL, will attend Bella Vista Prep in Phoenix, Arizona to end his high school career. Karvala has one season of eligibility left and plans on spending it playing against elevated competition.
Karvala is a four-star small forward and currently is the top player in the state of Wisconsin at the time of his transfer announcement. The guard holds scholarships from Iowa, Syracuse, Xavier, Arizona State, Ole Miss, and Marquette among others. The small forward has truly blossomed into a versatile wing over the past few years and now may leave the state for good after announcing a transfer out to Arizona.
The Wisconsin basketball program might be the real loser in this situation as Karvala will now play across the country. The Badgers no longer have a hometown card that can be played nor does the program have an in-state advantage any longer.
Moving forward, Wisconsin might be truly stuck in quite the recruiting battle for one of the better players to come out of the state in recent times.
While the Wisconsin basketball program was one of the first to recruit Karvala heavily, the Badgers might not have enough to land the recruit in the future.
Karvala will have a chance to play in front of bigger crowds against tougher competition, which could be just what the recruit needs to continue to boost his recruitment. However for Wisconsin, that means more programs will start to push for Karvala.

Syracuse has been one such program and likely will not stop even with the increased distance from Karvala. The recruit stated the offer from the Orange was “amazing” and valued receiving an offer from the program very highly. Iowa is the most recent program to join the recruitment of Karvala with a scholarship offer, and now will become one of the closer schools to the forward geographically.
For the Wisconsin basketball staff, recruiting Karvala moving forward could become tricky and certainly could be a test of just how bad the staff wants the forward.
