Brittany Henderson isn’t on the bag anymore. But for Brooke Henderson, that’s not just a caddie change. That’s the woman who was with her for 13 of her 14 LPGA victories suddenly not being there, and that’s a lot to adjust to.
Brittany is currently pregnant with her first child. So, heading into this week’s JM Eagle LA Championship, Brooke has veteran caddie John Killeen beside her instead, only the second caddie of her professional career.
“It’s been weird for sure,” Henderson said, according to Golfweek on April 16. “She’s my best friend, and for 11 years we traveled together and were together basically 24/7 except for off weeks.”
That’s not an exaggeration. Brittany was there for almost all of it. The only win she missed was the first one, the 2015 Cambia Portland Classic, because both sisters were playing in the event.
“It’s been a big change, but I still talk to her all the time,” Henderson said. “Just adjusting to the new life out on tour, dealing with what most players have dealt with their entire career, that’s kind of interesting to learn more about.”
Henderson won this event in 2021, back when it was called the Hugel-Air Premia LA Open and played on a different course.
Killeen has been around for decades on the LPGA circuit, carrying bags for Cristie Kerr, Juli Inkster, Meg Mallon, and Lizette Salas. His wife, Denise, also played on the tour, something Henderson noticed immediately.
“He’s such an amazing guy, and he has so many connections out here on tour, so that’s been really fun,” she said.
The season started slowly, but a top-25 finish at the Aramco Championship at Shadow Creek got things moving again.
“I feel like the game is right there,” Henderson said. “I’m looking forward to having some good weeks coming up.”
Brittany is still calling, and the sisters still work on course management together when Brooke is home in Naples.
