Golf best bets: Picks for the Hero World Challenge

The PGA Tour heads to The Bahamas this week for the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Club, and the biggest story of the week is undoubtedly Tiger Woods returning to competitive golf. With the uncertainty surrounding Woods' health, we don't feel comfortable putting any money on the golf legend, but we will spray the board with our two favorite prop bets.

Viktor Hovland > Scottie Scheffler (-110 DraftKings)

It's nearly impossible to back Viktor Hovland in this limited field. The red-hot Norweigan is only +400 to win the tournament and -150 to finish inside the top five, so there's no value on him to have a good week.

The only value we see with Hovland this week is in the matchups market, where he just has to beat one player in the 20-man field to cash our ticket. Unfortunately, he's matched up against World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, but Hovland should still be a betting favorite to beat him.

Not only is Hovland the hottest player in the world with two wins and four top-five finishes over his last four worldwide starts, but he's also the two-time reigning champion of the Hero World Challenge. No one plays windy, coastal golf courses better than Hovland, and he's proven he loves this layout. If you're going to give us Hovland as a pick 'em against any other golfer in the world right now, we're going to take it.

Justin Rose top-10 finish (+130 FD)

Justin Rose may be one of the weaker players in the field this week, but he has a sublime history at Albany.

In four starts at the Hero World Challenge, Rose has finished T5, solo third, T5 and T9. He's never finished outside of the top 10 at Albany. Rose struggled in his last three starts on the DP World Tour, but he should be able to find his game on a golf course he's dominated in the past.
