Johnson Wagner has said he’s come around on one of Keegan Bradley’s decisions for the Ryder Cup, now seeing it as a smart move by the American captain.

With Luke Donald confirming his six captain’s picks for Bethpage on Monday, fans know the 24 players who will contest arguably the most highly-anticipated Ryder Cup of all-time later this month.

Donald’s selections didn’t offer much in the way of surprises. Bradley’s, on the other hand, had far more debate surrounding them.

The biggest question before his announcement was whether or not Bradley would pick himself to play. The 39-year-old made headlines earlier this year when he was named US Ryder Cup captain despite never having captained a team or played in a Presidents Cup.

Keegan Bradley decides against picking himself

Back in February, Keegan Bradley said that if he were playing well enough to be considered as a pick, then he wouldn’t rule out taking one of those spots for himself. But with just two top-10 finishes this season and no wins since his appointment as captain, he decided against it.

Cameron Young and Tony Finau were given wildcards after missing out on qualification through points. They joined Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark and Max Homa to round out Team USA.

Johnson Wagner says Keegan Bradley made right call

Speaking during Golf Central, Johnson Wagner said that while he understands why some people thought Bradley should have picked himself, he thinks leaving himself out was “the right call”.

The biggest storyline heading into next season is whether or not Rory McIlroy will make it back from injury in time to defend Team Europe’s title at Bethpage Black. He tore ligaments in his left ankle earlier this summer during a charity football match but hasn’t ruled out playing just yet.
