Although he ended up in second place at the Rory M over the weekend, it sounded like Rory McIlroy wasn't too pleased with the course conditions.
The Irish golfer was caught in a hot mic moment after narrowly missing a putt during his final round at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. "The greens are so s--t," he was heard saying after the putt went wide of the hole, eliciting groans of agony from the spectators.
Despite the frustrating moment, McIlroy came away from the tournament in second place overall, with a 2-under 68.
“I’m really happy with where my game is — the way I played over the weekend, the shots that I hit, how I controlled my ball flight,” McIlroy said. “It has been a great week. Missing the trophy, that’s about it.”

McIlroy was hardly alone in expressing his frustrations with the course. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler saw a putt narrowly miss the 17th hole, causing him to throw up his arms in frustration as he looked down at the green.

Both men fell short of American Chris Gotterup, who came in first with a 15-under overall. The win pushed him into the World Top 50 for the first time in his career.
“I definitely was the villain out there today,” Gotterup said. “I felt like I was ready and prepared mentally today. And that’s kind of what I’ve been talking about over the last couple of weeks, that I’ve kind of gotten into the mix a little bit and just faded away a little bit. And today, my goal was to hang in there tough and I felt like I did that really well.”
Next up for golf fans is The Open Championship at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland, which begins this Thursday, July 17.
