Scottie Scheffler draws Tiger Woods comparisons with U.S. Open betting odds

Like a runaway freight train, Scottie Scheffler cannot be stopped.

The world's best golfer continues to distance himself from the field, winning tournaments weekly and running away in the FedExCup standings.

Ahead of the U.S. Open, FanDuel has placed +280 odds on Scheffler, marking the shortest odds for a player in the U.S. Open since Tiger Woods was a jaw-dropping +170 in 2009.

Scheffler earned the right to be the odds-on favorite. He's torn through the last two months of the season, finishing no worse than eighth in his last seven starts. He's won three of his last four starts, including the PGA Championship, and was fourth at The Masters.

The run he's on now is better than Woods in 2009. That season, Tiger had finished in the top 10 in his previous six starts before the U.S. Open and had two victories. He would go on to finish sixth at the U.S. Open, unable to overcome a first-round 74.

Is there anyone who can stop Scheffler as he prepares to take on Oakmont? Perhaps a course with incredible rough and all-around difficulty. Scheffler was a much different player in 2016 when he last played a U.S. Open at Oakmont and missed the cut.

Perhaps Bryson DeChambeau or another rival could get in his way. Maybe the weather will create issues as rain is forecasted throughout the weekend. All seem unlikely with his current play.

Pick any stat you like, and Scheffler will rank near the top. He's at the top of his game and seems poised for the challenge. Come Sunday, he may be one step closer to the coveted career grand slam.
