The stage is set for the 2025 Scottish Open, teeing off tomorrow at North Berwick. With the world’s top golfers arriving in Scotland, all eyes are on the Genesis event as it returns to the traditional links setup, offering a stark contrast to the high-rough, target-style courses seen in the U.S.
Current world number one Scottie Scheffler heads into the tournament in top form, riding a wave of dominance with three wins and three top-ten finishes in his last six starts. But as the tournament nears, Scheffler made an honest and eye-opening comparison between U.S. and UK golf, highlighting just how different the two worlds are.
“I love kind of getting beat up at the US Open,” Scheffler said. “But over here, you get to do a lot of stuff I wouldn’t normally do. Around the greens in the States, I’m probably using two clubs. Here, I’m bringing five or six, even down to an eight iron.”
Scheffler emphasized how the UK’s traditional layouts offer more shot variety and reward creativity: “No matter where you are, there’s always a shot to be played.” In contrast, he explained how U.S. setups often leave little room for imagination: “When you miss a green at the US Open, you’re basically gonna hit a similar type of shot each time.”

Scheffler will be grouped with defending champion Robert MacIntyre and veteran Adam Scott over the first two rounds. “Bob works really hard… one of the great guys out here,” Scheffler said of MacIntyre, who claimed a memorable win last year.
While Scheffler remains the favorite, his candid breakdown of course styles shows just how mentally and technically demanding the week ahead might be.
