With the RBC Canadian Open having kicked off this Thursday morning, there are some familiar faces missing from competition. One in particular being Sahith Theegala who is set to miss an extended period of time, due to a neck injury. Theegala is one of the more decorated Tour players despite only having one career victory thus far. His unfortunate struggles to keep away from injuries, has set him back this 2025 season to say the least. The 27-year-old Pepperdine grad must find a way to become healthy, or his ability to be dominant in the sport will come into question quickly. With no expected return date, Theegala will have to watch and rehab from afar.
With a career of success as seen in the $19,917,250 career earnings for Theegala, his recent reality has been far more undesirable. A recent withdrawal now marks the third time that he has had to withdraw due to injury, in the last four starts. According to sources, Theegala pulled out of the Truist Championship in May after shooting 78 in the third round. Then, he withdrew from the PGA Championship before play could begin its action.
“I’ve been battling the last few weeks, so this one stings,” Theegala posted in a social media post.
This season the pro since 2020 has had a lackluster approach, with only two top 25 starts in 15 tournaments outings. His inability to stay healthy enough for play seems to be the highlighting factor. The harsh reality is, the season does not stop despite Theegala needing time away to heal. Missing out on key opportunities to better his current play will be key, especially when due to return.
Getting the call from doctors was the final straw for Theegala and his camp, and understandingly so. Forcing any more damage to a neck injury would have done no justice, with his longevity in this sport front and center.
“The RBC Canadian Open always treats players so well, and I was really excited to play the new venue at TPC Toronto this year. The place looks beautiful and I’ve heard so many great things about the golf course and the facility overall,” Theegala said. “Doctors have advised me to put the clubs away for a little while as I get treatment and rest for an injury I’ve been battling the last few weeks, so this one stings.”
It has been the expectation that the aspiring star will also miss the U.S. Open, a truly next level tournament featuring the best. One key advantage in the backpocket for Theegala, is the time he will receive to fully heal and return more prepared. Currently ranked 119th in the FedEx Cup Standings, that will also be expected to take a hit for the worse. So now, fans of Theegala must sit back and hope his rehab ends in a full recovery of all injuries. An athlete of that caliber when present on the course is the epitome of PGA Tour golf.
