Tiger Woods celebrated the 30th anniversary of his TGR Foundation by announcing that more than $50 million was raised last year to support the nonprofit organization's education initiatives.
"Tonight was a reminder that the legacy I'm most proud of isn't on the golf course; it's the work we've done to positively impact the lives of students through TGR Foundation," Woods said. "I am excited for what's next as we expand alongside our great supporters to reach more young people from communities in need."
The event at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla., came a little more than two weeks after Woods turned 50.
Woods, the founder of the TGR Foundation, had 20 million more reasons to smile at the end of the event, as the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation pledged a $20 million grant for a new learning lab in Atlanta.
"Nearly 30 years ago, my parents created TGR Foundation with the goal of making a positive impact in a young person's life daily," Woods said in a statement. "Through our TGR Learning Labs, we are providing access to safe spaces and programs that are bringing this dream to life. I am excited to bring a TGR Learning Lab to Atlanta, as it will allow us to empower more students."
Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, also owns the Atlanta Drive GC that is part of the TGL league. The indoor golf league was founded by Woods and Rory McIlroy, with the Atlanta Drive sweeping New York Golf Club 2-0 in the finals of the inaugural season of TGL.
"I have immense respect and admiration for Tiger, not only for his legendary career, but for the way he continues to lead with purpose off the course," Blank said in a statement. "It's truly an honor to partner with someone who believes so deeply in the power of education and community.
"Seeing the impact of TGR Foundation, from the Learning Labs to the hundreds of thousands of students empowered through its programs, is incredibly inspiring and I look forward to seeing the impact the TGR Learning Lab Atlanta makes on our community."
