The highest-paid college QB has been revealed

College football is a big business these days, and quarterbacks are among the biggest beneficiaries in the system. Just look at the numbers. On3’s Pete Nakos released a list on Thursday of their site's valuations for how much money each quarterback in college football could be making. They have Arch Manning as the runaway leader with a valuation of $6.8M. Carson Beck, who was enticed to leave Georgia and transfer to Miami, is second at $4.3M. No other quarterback on the list has a valuation greater than $4M, though everyone else in the top 10 has a valuation above $3M. Those are estimated figures about a quarterback’s NIL value based on their popularity, name recognition, demand as a transfer and social media following. There is plenty of money to be made in college football, which is why many quarterbacks who have questionable futures as a professional try to extend their eligibility. Some have even taken a legal route to stay in school longer, which is a concept that would have been unheard of years ago. Manning having the highest valuation at nearly double many of the other top quarterbacks is not a surprise. He is going to be the starting quarterback at one of the most premium-brand schools in Texas. He also has more name recognition than anyone in college football since he is carrying on the Manning family quarterback legacy. Manning does not take full advantage of his ability to make money and instead is more selective about what endorsement deals he signs. He was even able to negotiate with EA Sports separately to appear in their video game. The real trick for Manning will be to live up to the hype. Texas has made the College Football Playoff two years in a row, including the national championship game last season. The only way to exceed that is by winning it all this season.

Tiger Woods unintentionally molded Scottie Scheffler into the best golfer in the world

Tiger Woods unintentionally molded Scottie Scheffler into the best golfer in the world

Scottie Scheffler is the most dominant golfer we've seen since Tiger Woods in his prime, but he wasn't always at this level. It took Scheffler 73 starts before he finally won his first PGA Tour event at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open. Since then, he's rattled off 21 worldwide wins, and he has Woods to thank. Ahead of the 2025 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club, Scheffler explained how playing with Woods in the final round of the 2020 Masters taught him a valuable lesson about what it takes to succeed on the PGA Tour. "The biggest change I felt like I made my first couple years on Tour to 2022 was the question always was, hey, how come you haven't won? The reason I felt like I hadn't won yet is I hadn't put myself in position enough times. I'd only played in a couple final groups. I always found myself just a little bit on the outside looking in, and that's one of the things I learned from playing with Tiger," Scheffler told reporters on Wednesday. "It was like, we're in 20th place or whatever going into Sunday at the Masters. Tiger has won five Masters; he's got no chance of winning the tournament. Then we showed up on the first hole and I was watching him read his putt, and I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, this guy is in it right now.'" Scheffler recalled how locked in Woods was in the final round despite being out of contention. He also mentioned how impressed he was when Woods birdied five of his last six holes after making a 10 on the par-3 12th. "I just admired the intensity that he brought to each round, and that's something that I try to emulate," Scheffler added. "It's not an easy thing to play a golf tournament. If I'm going to take a week off, I might as well just stay home. I'm not going to come out here to take a week off. If I'm playing in a tournament, I'm going to give it my all. That's really all it boils down to. "That was something that I just thought about for a long time. I felt like a change I needed to make was bringing that same intensity to each round and each shot … I think it's just the amount of consistency and the intensity that I bring to each round of golf is not taking shots off, not taking rounds off, not taking tournaments off." What used to be a weakness for Scheffler quickly became a superpower. The World No. 1 approaches every PGA Tour round like it's the final round of a major championship, and it shows in his consistency. Scheffler has played 72 competitive rounds this season. He's shot over par only seven times, and two of them came at the brutally tough U.S. Open in which only one player finished the tournament under par. Dating back to the Travelers Championship, he's shot in the 60s in 19 of his last 20 rounds. That level of consistency is nearly impossible to beat. The rest of the PGA Tour can't be happy that Woods gave Scheffler the secret sauce to dominating professional golf a few years ago.

Winnipeg Jets Strike Out: Top Remaining NHL Free Agent Joins Central Division Rival

The Jets and any other rival of the Avalanche lost out on Victor Olofsson, as the top remaining NHL free agent has just signed a one-year deal with Colorado. One of the best remaining unrestricted free agents is no longer available. The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Victor Olofsson to a one-year, $1.575 million contract through 2025-26, the team announced Wednesday. PuckPedia reported the agreement Tuesday night. Victor Olofsson entered free agency after a bounce-back season with the Vegas Golden Knights. After six seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, the team that drafted him in the seventh round in 2014, the Swedish winger signed a one-year, $1.075 million contract with Vegas this past summer. That followed a difficult 2023-24 campaign in Buffalo, where he posted just 15 points in 51 games. In Vegas, the 30-year-old regained some of his scoring touch. Although he was limited to 56 games due to injuries, he netted 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points. Not quite the 40-point pace he was in his prime with the Sabres, but Olofsson proved he could be a reliable depth scorer for a playoff team. He registered four points in nine playoff games before the Golden Knights were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round. Olofsson has 105 goals and 106 assists for 211 points in 370 NHL career games. Last spring was his first taste of playoff action. Olofsson could be the key for the Avalanche to win the Central Division Now, Olofsson becomes a part of a Colorado team that is seeking a return to Central Division supremacy after being defeated by the Dallas Stars in last season's semifinals. This could pose a problem for the Winnipeg Jets, as their direct rivals have just gotten better up front. With stars such as Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and the now-returning Gabriel Landeskog around him, he'll get the chance to find a significant role on a contender. For Olofsson, the Avalanche provides a clean slate and an opportunity to demonstrate that there is still much more to give. If all goes well, Colorado will be giving their Western Conference foes a real hard time in the upcoming season.

Four surprise cut and trade candidates for the Packers that could be on the move before Tuesday's roster cutdown

We're getting closer to cutdown day. Next Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers have to reduce their roster from 90 to 53 players, so general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur will have some difficult decisions to make. The preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday helps as a deciding factor, and parts of the roster can secure a spot or put themselves in position to get cut or traded over the next five days. Let's discuss four players who can, somewhat surprisingly, not be a part of the Packers' initial 53-man roster. Isaiah Simmons Simmons brings real value as a special teamer, which at this point is the main argument for him to be on the 53-man roster. But his defensive contributions have been suboptimal at best, allowing a 138.9 passer rating when targeted, missing 20% of his tackle attempts, and with a 27.6 PFF grade combining both preseason games against the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts. The former top 10 pick is a good athlete, so he brings a different element to special teams, but the Packers could simply opt to keep Kristian Welch or simply only four off-ball linebackers. Mecole Hardman The Packers have five locks at wide receiver: Matthew Golden, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams. The sixth spot is up for grabs, and Hardman has a real shot at making the team over Malik Heath due to the value he adds as a special teamer. At the same time, Hardman didn't exactly have a stellar preseason, which included a muffed punt, and if another team offers something, it would be helpful to trade him away for extra draft capital late, prompting an easier decision to keep Heath. Donovan Jennings Jennings was an undrafted player last year and spent his entire rookie season on the practice squad. This year, he's been in position to make the roster by practicing with the twos at left guard. But there's some issues. First, the Packers will prioritize moving tackles inside to guard if needed (including Jordan Morgan and Anthony Belton, but possibly even Kadeem Telfort as well). And Jennings had a rough performance last week against the Colts. He will have to be solid against the Seahawks to rebound from that and show he deserves an active roster spot. Ben Sims Sims has been a solid offensive contributor for the Packers behind Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave over the past two seasons, but John FitzPatrick clearly surpassed him on the depth chart as an all-around tight end and special teamer. Now, Sims' battle is more against other positions to see if the Packers will keep three or four tight ends.
