2026 Transactions: Cubs DFA Jameson Taillon

In a year where injuries have struck the Cubs’ rotation with great force, Jameson Taillon’s 2026 season was marred by injury and, at times, an inability to give the club length in the rotation. On July 27, the Cubs designated him for assignment.

Taillon cut by Cubs

Jameson Taillon was designated for assignment on July 27, a move that may very well end his tenure with the Chicago Cubs.

Over his last four starts, Taillon allowed six home runs over his last 15.2 IP, and in what will likely be his start as a Cub, he allowed seven earned runs over four innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

His contract was set to expire at the end of the 2026 campaign.

To replace Taillon on the active roster, the Cubs selected reliever Andrew Wantz from Triple-A Iowa.

Recalls & options

Ivan Johnson (Reds), Paxton Schultz (Nationals), and Yohel Pozo (Orioles) were recalled from Triple-A.

Junior Perez (White Sox), Tsung-Che Cheng (Red Sox), and Brewer Hicklen (Braves) were optioned to the Minors.

Other moves

The Blue Jays placed pitcher Braydon Fisher on the restricted list.

Sam Huff (Orioles), Matt Krook (Nationals), and Geoff Hartlieb (Athletics) were designated for assignment.
