MLB heads into a pivotal offseason with the current CBA expiring, but other league business remains, including the possibility of trades. These 25 players are trade candidates heading into the 2026-27 offseason.

After some off-field issues earlier in his career, Abrams emerged as an elite player in 2026, going 30/30 and posting an .834 OPS. He was rumored as a trade piece last offseason and could still be under consideration on a rebuilding team with two years remaining under contract.

Alcantara has a $21 million team option next season that will almost certainly be picked up, but it remains to be seen where he will play in 2027. He hasn't pitched at his old Cy Young level since returning from elbow surgery in 2025, though Alcantara improved to go 13-11 with a 3.87 ERA, leaving MLB with 214 innings and even posting three saves in the final week of the season. If the Marlins can improve their team over the long term by moving Alcantara, they might trade him.

The Brewers have often traded their foundational players as they enter walk years, and Contreras is next. The pending free agent has seen his offense plummet over the last two seasons, but he remains one of MLB's top offensive catchers, with 18 home runs and 94 RBI last season. The Brewers have a potential replacement in Bo Naylor and top prospect Jeferson Quero, so moving Contreras to add in other areas would make sense.

The season the Angels waited for from Detmers finally arrived in 2026, as the left-hander posted a 3.36 ERA and 211 strikeouts in 32 starts. He's not a free agent for two more seasons, but the Angels are still rebuilding. With new baseball head John Mozeliak and new owner Stan Kroenke, the team could look to make a long-term splash by moving the lefty.

Duran had a forgettable 2026 season, hitting only .207-20-69 with a .627 OPS. His track record shows he's a much better offensive player, and the Red Sox might find a team willing to take the risk. Boston will need more pitching depth in the offseason and has a wealth of outfielders.

Durability has been an issue for Eovaldi, who has thrown more than 150 innings only once in the last five seasons, but he remains effective. He has one season remaining on his contract, but the aging Rangers could look to get younger this offseason. Eovaldi and Jacob deGrom are both trade candidates if the team enters a rebuild.

After a terrible start to the season, Kwan picked it up offensively and posted a career-high .382 OBP while continuing to play excellent defense. The bigger concerns are his lack of power and stolen bases in 2026 as he approaches age 30, but Kwan still brings value. Entering his walk year, he's a trade candidate for the Guardians on a low budget.

Durability has been a major issue for Lodolo, and he was limited to 21 starts in 2026 because of multiple blister flare-ups. More concerning was his drop in strikeout rate, so the Reds could be selling low if they move Lodolo before his walk year. Still, a rebuild remains possible, especially with ace Hunter Greene expected to miss all of 2027.

Hernandez peaked in 2024 with 33 home runs, but his totals have declined since then. He hit only 16 home runs in 2026, and the Dodgers need a place for top prospect Josue De Paula to play after he debuted in September. Hernandez has more than $22 million due in the final year of his contract, though it might be best for the team and player if he's moved.

Injuries have nearly ruined Jung's career, as he was limited to just 104 games again in 2026. He's arbitration-eligible in the offseason, and the Rangers might not want to pay him with top prospect Sebastian Walcott on the cusp of the majors. Texas could revamp their pitching by moving Jung.

Arm issues limited Kikuchi to 14 starts in 2026, and the team won't need him much next season as they continue to rebuild. The lefty is due more than $21 million at age 36, so the Angels aren't likely to get much in a trade, but it still might make sense to move him to help revamp the farm system.

Few MLB players have been more frustrating than Kirby over the last two seasons. Formerly a Cy Young candidate, he's posted an ERA above 4.00 in back-to-back years. His strikeout rate plunged in 2026 as he tried to harness his off-speed stuff, and the Mariners have more pitching on the way up in their farm system. It might be time for a change of scenery.

Injuries weren't as big of an issue for Lewis in 2026 as they have been in previous seasons, but his performance remained a disappointment. He posted a .667 OPS in 125 games, and the former first overall draft choice's defense has also regressed. If there's any player in MLB who could use a change of scenery, it's Lewis.

Manaea has struggled over the last two seasons while battling elbow problems, having a particularly rough time keeping the ball in the park. Due $25 million next season, the lefty is unlikely to fetch much in return for the Mets, but could be worthy of a trade with more pitching coming along in New York.

Marte has missed time and angered the Diamondbacks franchise in each of the last two seasons, to the point that ending the 10-year marriage might make sense. He's signed through 2030 with a player option for 2031.

Returning from Tommy John surgery, McClanahan posted a 3.36 ERA in 24 starts for the Rays. He had more arm issues late in the year, but if healthy, he could be traded this offseason as he enters his walk year. The lefty certainly has injury concerns, but he also shows ace upside.

After some early-year hiccups, Megill had another great season with a 2.63 ERA and 30 saves. Like teammate William Contreras, Megill is a trade candidate as he enters his walk year.

Miller showed again that he's arguably the best closer in baseball, but that didn't stop his name from appearing in trade rumors at the deadline. He's not a free agent for three more years, but Padres baseball head A.J. Preller could move him to fill other team needs.

Ruiz made strides on offense and defense with a new front office and coaching staff in Washington. However, the team also brought up top catching prospect Harry Ford late in the year, making Ruiz a potential trade candidate. He's signed through at least 2030, but the Nationals could strengthen their farm system by moving Ruiz while also giving Ford more playing time.

Rumfield was a pleasant surprise in 2026, earning Rookie of the Year consideration after hitting .300-16-73 with a league-high .390 OBP. There's no pressure to move Rumfield, but he's already going on his age-27 season, and the Rockies have top prospect Charlie Condon waiting in the wings.

Between injuries and hitting struggles, Shaw's stock dropped in 2026. He was able to prove his defensive versatility and likely still has value entering his age-25 season. After signing Alex Bregman last offseason, Shaw remains a trade candidate for an organization that desperately needs more pitching.

The injury-plagued Story rebounded to hit 25 home runs in 2025, then missed most of 2026. He signed for one more season, but Boston has top shortstop prospect Franklin Arias ready to take over behind Story. With several pitchers heading to free agency, Story could be moved to get pitching.

Volpe struggled to return from shoulder surgery and lost his shortstop job to top prospect George Lombard Jr. He signed super agent Scott Boras in the offseason and should still have value and is a prime trade candidate with a likely preference to remain at shortstop.

Kansas City has tried to compete in recent offseasons, but those efforts have gone to waste. Both Wacha and Seth Lugo enter the final seasons of their contracts in 2027. Wacha holds far more value after posting a 3.32 ERA in 32 starts, and the Royals could fetch some younger players who are better fits.

Walker's overall offense has declined since signing a three-year deal with Houston in 2025, but he's remained productive. Now entering the final year of his deal, Walker is a trade candidate, a 36-year-old earning $20 million. Houston needs pitching, and Walker is one of their best MLB trade chips.
