Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani remains the biggest and most popular player in Major League Baseball today. Further proof of that is the recent multi-million-dollar sale of a unique Ohtani item.
Ohtani, who is batting .293 this season with 22 home runs, 58 RBI, 65 runs scored and a remarkable OPS+ of 162 over 88 games, did not participate in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday due to a knee injury. However, he still made headlines because of one of his sports card.
Fanatics Collect announced on Tuesday that it brokered a private sale of a 1-of-1 Ohtani trading card. The sale was worth $3,365,000, which "sets the record for the most expensive Ohtani card ever." The new record-breaking item is the 2018 Bowman Superfractor rookie card of Ohtani.
It surpassed the previous record sale of $3 million for the MVP Award Gold MLB Logoman autographed card of Ohtani from 2025 Topps Chrome, per ESPN.
According to Card Ladder, it is now the fifth sale of an Ohtani card for over $1 million. Other athletes with at least five sales of over a million dollars include LeBron James , Mickey Mantle, Tom Brady , Honus Wagner, Kobe Bryant , Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth and Luka Doncic, per The Athletic.

Ohtani has already cemented himself as one of the greatest players in MLB history. With that said, his sports cards and other memorabilia should only increase in value over time, especially if he wins more World Series titles.
Ohtani is already a two-time World Series champion, four-time MVP and six-time All-Star.
