Aaron Boone reveals unfortunate Cody Bellinger injury update

The New York Yankees might be more pressed to make a splash at the trade deadline after the latest Cody Bellinger injury.

On Monday, Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed that Bellinger will miss four to six weeks with a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

Bellinger suffered the injury on Saturday in the Yankees’ 3-1 win against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. He then sat out Sunday’s game, and now he will be out until September.

The Yankees signed Bellinger to a massive five-year deal worth $162.5 million this past offseason, and he has been a huge part of the team’s success. Bellinger is hitting .259 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI, and he won the MLB All-Star Game MVP award while helping the American League win the game.

New York came into Monday three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. The trade deadline is on August 3, and while the Yankees were already expected to be active, the Bellinger injury could make it even more of a priority to add another bat.

Max Schuemann replaced Bellinger on Saturday, and he started in left field on Sunday, although he went 0-for-2 before being replaced by Spencer Jones.
