The New York Yankees unsurprisingly rank among the top teams in the American League, but Aaron Judge is not their best hitter this season. Despite a red-hot start to the 2026 campaign, by his standards, Judge struggled through the month of May. His production dropped drastically in the past couple of weeks, even though the Yankees are enjoying a good run.

On Tuesday night, the New York Yankees removed Aaron Judge from the lineup for the opening clash of their series against the Cleveland Guardians. According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, the three-time MVP has a bone bruise in his right rib, causing pain in his shoulder. Judge met with team doctor Dr. Christopher Ahmad and will consult a specialist on Wednesday.

“The Yankees are saying that Aaron Judge’s bone bruise is in his right ribs. He feels it in his right shoulder,” Hoch wrote.

Judge has 2.2 bWAR for the Yankees this season with 17 home runs and a 152 OPS+. However, he batted .171/.271/.293 over his last 11 games with only three extra-base hits, including only one home run.

Yankees Skipper Shares Details On Aaron Judge Injury

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed that Aaron Judge was struggling with shoulder trouble during the latter half of last month. But the issue compounded severely during their recent series with the Athletics this past weekend.

“He’s been kind of the last couple of weeks kind of dealing with some shoulder soreness, just kind of more nagging,” Boone said before the series opener against the Cleveland Guardians.

“Then over the weekend, the last couple of games in Sacramento, I think it became a little more than just that, where I noticed with some swings and stuff. It became a little more than just nagging. I think it was affecting him.”

Aaron Judge had a stress fracture in his right rib ahead of the 2020 season. He did not miss any games due to the COVID-shortened campaign that year. But Judge suffered a season-ending injury in 2023. The Yankees failed to reach the playoffs that year.
