Aaron Judge’s New Bling Creates A Buzz

Aaron Judge has never had to go out of his way to stand out.

He’s been the face of the New York Yankees for almost a decade. He’s just the 16th captain in the Yankees’ storied history. He’s also a generational talent, a “no-brainer” Hall of Famer, and one of the most recognizable names in Major League Baseball.

So when fans noticed a new addition to his game-day look this season, it created instant buzz.

A diamond-encrusted gavel, hanging from a chain. No explanation offered. No quote given. Just a flash of personality from one of baseball’s most famously reserved superstars.

Judge told YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits the necklace was a gift. When The Athletic asked him about it, he declined to comment.

But not everyone kept quiet. Jazz Chisholm Jr. had thoughts on the now-viral Aaron Judge necklace.

“He always had the little gold, small little gold chain,” Chisholm told The Athletic. “I had to let him know: ‘Hey, you’re the best player in the world, my guy. You’ve got to do something. You’ve got to show something. You got it.’”

Chisholm said the chain talks started last year.

“But I like it. I love it, actually. Show other kids that baseball is changing and he’s along with it. The best player in the world is with it.”

This spring, Judge made it clear he wasn’t thrilled about Yankees managing partner Hal Steinbrenner lifting the club’s decades-old facial hair policy. Judge said he liked rules. He liked discipline. That’s who he’s always been.

Now 32 and in his ninth big-league season, we still don’t know much about the man behind the uniform. Outside of glimpses with his dog on social media, Judge has kept most of his personal life tucked away from public view.

And maybe that’s why the diamond gavel necklace has everyone talking. It's a subtle glimpse of how Judge acknowledges how the fans and the rest of baseball celebrate him.
