Jo Adell hit two towering home runs, Chris Taylor added another, and the Los Angeles Angels rallied from a four-run hole to defeat the Seattle Mariners 8-6 on Saturday night at Angel Stadium.
Despite Cal Raleigh’s two home runs—bringing his MLB-leading total to 26—and four RBIs for Seattle, the Angels mounted a steady comeback, handing the Mariners their fifth straight loss and 12th in the last 17 games.
Kenley Jansen closed it out despite surrendering Raleigh’s solo shot in the ninth, locking down his 14th save.
Taylor entered the game in the second inning for Jorge Soler, who exited with right groin tightness, and made an immediate impact by homering off Seattle starter Luis Castillo (4-4). Two batters later, Adell crushed a 431-foot solo homer to left-center to pull the Angels within two at 4-2.
The Angels capitalized on a pair of defensive miscues by Seattle in the third inning to even the score. In the fourth, Adell launched a 445-foot shot to center, giving Los Angeles a 5-4 lead.
In the fifth, RBI doubles from Nolan Schanuel and Taylor Ward extended the lead to 6-4. Zach Neto and Adell tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh, capping a streak of scoring in six straight innings—something the Angels hadn’t done since 2011.
Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez, who singled in each of his first two plate appearances, exited in the third inning after a ball ricocheted off his leg while attempting to steal third.
Cole Young doubled and scored in the second inning and later added an RBI single for the Mariners.
In a tie game in the fourth, Angels reliever Connor Brogdon (1-0) came on with runners at the corners and one out. He struck out J.P. Crawford, issued a walk to Jorge Polanco, and got Leody Taveras to fly out, keeping the game level at 4-4.
Adell is red hot at the plate—he’s gone 13-for-32 (.406) over his last 10 games, with five homers, two doubles, and nine RBIs, raising his batting average from .184 to .224.
The series wraps Sunday with Mariners right-hander George Kirby (0-3, 8.56 ERA) facing Angels lefty Tyler Anderson (2-2, 3.86 ERA).
