Phillies Trade Idea Bring Rhys Hoskins Back, Sends Bryce Harper to Outfield
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Around Major League Baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies have to hope that teams are willing to part ways with some of their best players.

That will likely happen, and the Phillies have the farm system to get anything done, realistically. Among the teams that could be sellers at the deadline are the Milwaukee Brewers, who sit at 27-28 and are 6.5 games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs in the National League Central.

The Brewers don't have a ton that the Phillies need outside of starting pitching, but there could be a chance that they try to reunite with Rhys Hoskins, the right-handed hitter who is currently hitting .287 with seven home runs.

Hoskins, a fan favorite in Philadelphia before the team let him walk in free agency, would be wanted back.

In a recent trade proposal from Ryan Amick of Sporting News, that's exactly what would happen, with his idea sending Bryce Harper back to the outfield.

“Hoskins will likely be a free agent after this season. He has a mutual option for 2026, but those are rarely picked up. Rather than potentially losing him for nothing, it would behoove the Brewers to trade Hoskins so they could get some assets in return.

“The Brewers are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline. They are 26-28 and 6.5 games back in the NL Central. If the Brewers decide to look toward the future, Hoskins would be a prime candidate to get moved,”Amick wrote.

When speaking with Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Harper revealed that he'd be willing to move to the outfield if the Phillies landed a legitimate option at first base.

He might believe that Hoskins could be that guy, but it's also fair to wonder whether that’d be the case given the front office let him walk in favor of Harper playing first.

There's now a two-year difference, so things have changed, but it's something that both sides have to consider.
