TORONTO – It was an impressive win for the Diamondbacks, as Arizona came away with the win by a score of 9-5 over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ryne Nelson was locked in on Thursday afternoon, as he pitched 5.2 innings yet only allowed one earned run on one hit. Nelson has been making the most of every opportunity coming his way and is surely solidifying his spot as a main piece for this D-Backs pitching staff in the future. Eugenio Suárez then started it off strong for Arizona as he hit his 22nd home run to give the D-Backs an early 2-0 lead.

After Alejandro Kirk hit a solo home run for Toronto, Eugenio Suárez punched back for Arizona while continuing his hot streak. Suárez hit a double that scored Pavin Smith and Ketel Marte and brought the score to 4-1, giving Arizona some insurance runs.

Pavin Smith helped start the fifth inning with a bang and gave the D-Backs some much-needed breathing room when Smith smashed a home run to center field. It didn’t stop there as Arizona was able to get bases loaded and give Randal Grichuk an opportunity he was able to capitalize on as he hit a sacrifice fly that scored Josh Naylor to give the Snakes a 7-1 lead.

Arizona tacked on a couple more runs with a Ketel Marte double followed up by a Pavin Smith sacrifice fly. However, the D-Backs bullpen issues came into play again as Anthony DeSclafani gave up three earned runs on five hits in two innings. Just like that, Toronto brought it to a 9-5 game entering the ninth inning.

The Snakes explosive offense though was too much for Toronto to overcome as Shelby Miller bounced back and closed out the ninth inning. Arizona was able to get an impressive win on a day that saw Ryne Nelson have some of his best stuff. Arizona now travels to Colorado for a three-game series against the Rockies.
