The Athletics are making wholesale changes to their big league roster as they have lost nine consecutive games and slide to 22-30 on the season. The A's now sit firmly in dead last in the American League West.

During this weekend, the A's are making many changes to their big league club. This includes calling up top prospect and outfielder Denzel Clarke from Triple-A Las Vegas, They are also calling up No. 30 prospect and infielder/outfielder Logan Davidson, catcher Willie Maclver, infielder CJ Alexander and left-handed pitcher Jacob Lopez.

The corresponding moves were to option outfielder JJ Bleday, pitcher Carlos Duran, and catcher Jhonny Pereda. Seth Brown was Designated for Assignment, and second baseman Zack Gelof was transferred to the 60-day Injured List.

Denzel Clarke is a young outfielder prospect who just turned 25, and is hitting .286 through 31 games with Las Vegas this season. Maclver has an OPS of 1.017 for the A's Triple-A affiliate in just 126 at-bats.

The Athletics now hope Clarke’s energetic spirit and crafty play, paired with a batch of fresh faces both at the plate and on the field, can help them turn things around.

During the nine-game slide, the A's were swept by both the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Angels. They lost four straight against the Angels.

The slew of roster changes is clearly to help refresh the team and allow for new faces to get a chance in the lineup. Like for Clarke, who made his MLB debut against the Philadelphia Phillies, and went 0-for-3.
