The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their busy offseason by re-signing Blake Treinen to a two-year, $22 million contract.

The move came on the heels of the team inking Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million contract and Michael Conforto to a one-year, $17 million deal.

Treinen was among the several Dodgers who reached free agency at the end of the World Series. There was mutual interest for both sides in reaching a new deal, and the right-hander is now slated to once again to be a key member out of the Dodgers bullpen.

According to Jack Harris of the L.A. Times, Treinen’s contract included a $5 million signing bonus and annual charitable donation, but no deferred salary:

The Dodgers have utilized salary deferrals for most of their recent signings, but that won’t apply to Treinen in his new two-year contract.

The 36-year-old is coming off one of his best seasons as he posted a 7-3 record with a 1.93 ERA, 2.99 FIP, 0.94 WHIP and 10.8 strikeouts per nine in 46.2 innings pitched across 50 appearances.

Treine also went 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA and team-leading three saves in 11.1 innings during the postseason.

He could continue to pitch the ninth inning for the Dodgers next year or work in high-leverage situations if the team decides to go with a closer-by-committee approach.

Across 10 MLB seasons, Treinen owns a 43-34 record with a 2.78 ERA, 3.26 FIP, 1.20 WHIP and 80 saves over 549.2 innings pitched (499 appearances). In addition to the Dodgers, he has pitched for the Washington Nationals (2014-2017) and Oakland Athletics (2017-2019).

What’s next for Dodgers after re-signing Blake Treinen?

With Treinen now re-signed, the Dodgers will likely shift their focus to bringing back Teoscar Hernández on a new deal.

If the veteran outfielder signs elsewhere, the Dodgers could pivot to another free-agent outfielder such as Anthony Santander or Jurickson Profar.

The Dodgers also are said to be interested in bolstering their bullpen with Tanner Scott or Devin Williams.
