Toronto Blue Jays’ pitching prospect Daniel Guerra is starting to look like the real deal.

On Wednesday evening, the 22-year-old righty made his 11th start of the season for the Vancouver Canadians, striking out 10 over six innings of two-run baseball. It’s the third time this season that he’s reached the double-digit strikeout mark this season.

With the strong outing, Guerra has a 3.35 ERA and 3.50 FIP in 51 innings pitched. That alone is impressive, but Guerra’s strikeout rate has ballooned to 32.7%, up from the career-best 24.2 K% he had last season. As is the case with many young pitchers, command remains a problem at times, as the 22-year-old also has an 11.7 BB%.

It’s hard to deny him as one of the Blue Jays’ top pitching prospects, as his 70 strikeouts are tied for fourth-most in all of the minor leagues, two behind teammate Nolan Perry. Among pitchers with 50 or more innings pitched in the minor leagues, only San Francisco Giants prospect Joe Whitman has a higher K%.

Guerra is certainly one to watch moving forward.

Dub Gleed hits sixth home run for the Canadians

The Canadians ended up winning that game 5-3, with Dub Gleed being the most noticeable bat. He went 4-5, hitting his 10th double of the season, as well as his sixth double. Over 40 games, the corner infield is slashing .265/.352/.450 in 177 plate appearances, giving him a 119 wRC+. What a pick up he looks to be.

Brennan Orf hit his second double of the season and Carter Cunningham hit his 11th double of the season. That’ll likely be his final in High-A as he’s earned a well-deserved promotion to Double-A.

Sean Keys hits another home run for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats

Somehow, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ offence is going to be even more fun to watch with Carter joining the team. On Wednesday, they blew out the Altoona Curve 14-3, thanks in large part to an eight-run eighth inning.

To the surprise of no one, Sean Keys hit his organization-leading 14th home run of the season, ultimately going 1-3 with two RBIS and a walk. Jace Bohrofen went 3-6 with his 12th double of the season.

Cutter Coffey hit his second long-ball of the season and Patrick Winkel hit his third. Winkel also hit a double, as did Jay Harry, Adrian Pinto, and Jorge Burgos. Pinto notched his first Double-A triple as well.

On the pitching side of things, Austin Cates made the start, giving up two earned runs over four and one-third innings, but striking out six in the process.

Davis Schneider walks four times in Buffalo Bisons’ blowout victory

The Triple-A Buffalo Bisons and Worcester Red Sox played six scoreless innings, before the Bisons exploded for 12 runs over the final three innings. Only one player, Carlos Mendoza, notched an extra base hit, as he hit his sixth double of the season, as well as his second home run of the year. In the end, he went 3-6 and drove in five.

Davis Schneider’s hilarious stat line in Triple-A got even more funny, as he walked four times. Since being optioned, Schneider is hitting just .167 with an incredible .615 on-base percentage, thanks to a 46.2 BB%. Just unreal.

Josh Rivera also had a multi-hit catch, finishing with two singles while driving in three. Rafael Lantigua and Josh Kasevich also hit two singles in the victory. Unfortunately, Jonatan Clase departed the game with an apparent injury.

Blaine Bullard hit sixth home run of the season in Dunedin Blue Jays’ 4-2 victory

On Wednesday, the Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the Daytona Tortugas 4-2 with a handful of notable performances. Alejandro Kirk hit a home run in his second plate appearance, a great way to kick-start his rehab assignment. Also on a rehab assignment was Yimi García, who struck out and walked a batter in a scoreless inning.

As for the prospects, Blaine Bullard hit his sixth home run in the bottom of the first inning. He’s been a league average hitter this season, which was boosted thanks to a hot start. Still, the 19-year-old is showing some promise.

Juan Sanchez continues to rake, hitting his eight double of the season, one day after a two home run game. Eric Snow also hit a double, his ninth of the season. Starting the game was Troy Guthrie, who struck out eight over six scoreless innings of work. Picking up the save was Franly Urena, who struck out four over one and two-thirds innings of work.

Other notes….

Only one of the three Blue Jays’ rookie teams were in action on Wednesday. The Dominican Summer League Blue Jays (Red) fell 7-6 to the DSL Angels. Isay Veras has gotten off to a good start, going 2-3. Catcher Samuel Orellana also had a two-hit game with his first career double, while Michael Mesa also hit his first career double.
