Blue Jays recall Yerry Rodríguez, option Ryan Burr

Rodríguez, 26, was acquired at the end of June from the Texas Rangers when the Blue Jays traded 2023 draftee, Josh Mollerus for the righty. Since joining the Blue Jays, Rodríguez had a 1.80 ERA and a 5.70 FIP in five innings pitched, along with a 30.8 K% and a 34.6 BB%.

The Dominican Republic-native has experience pitching in the big league with Rangers, posting a 6.88 ERA and a 7.67 FIP in 17 innings pitched this season, along with a 15.4 K% and a 14.1 BB%. For his career, Rodríguez has a 7.11 ERA and a 5.99 FIP in 31.2 innings pitched, with an 18.9 K% and an 11.5 BB%.

If you’re wondering about Mollerus, he has a 7.11 ERA and an 8.34 FIP in 6.1 innings since joining the Rangers’ High-A team, along with a 19.4 K% and a 3.2 BB%. Prior to the trade, he had a 3.90 ERA and a 3.64 FIP in 30 innings pitched with the Vancouver Canadians.

As for Burr, the Blue Jays acquired him at the end of May and was fine with the Jays. Overall, he posted a 5.40 ERA and a 3.84 FIP in 10 innings pitched, along with a 22 K% and a 9.8 BB%. He’s the exact type of reliever you’d expect a team selling at the deadline to have. There’s no doubt he’ll be back with the Jays at some point this season.

The trade deadline is just four days away, so expect numerous transactions over the next few days. There are six soon-to-be free agents on the Blue Jays 26-man roster, including Trevor Richards and Yimi García. If both those players are traded, the Blue Jays will need to call up two relievers in their place, with Burr being a good candidate to return.
