Bo Bichette Has Much-Needed Breakout Game

If you can pinpoint one offseason acquisition that has been the most disappointing across Major League Baseball, the New York Mets' signing of Bo Bichette would be right at the top of the list.

The Mets signed Bichette to a three-year, $126 million contract with opt-outs after the first two years during the offseason to be New York's starting third baseman. The move has not panned out so far.

Bichette has struggled mightily during his first season with the Mets, even getting booed by the Mets faithful at one point. The former Toronto Blue Jay, however, finally had his first signature game with the Mets.

During the Amazins' 7-1 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, Bichette collected his first four-hit game of the season, going 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. This included a huge two-run single in the top of the fourth that helped put the Mets up for good.

This was certainly an encouraging sign, considering Bichette entered Wednesday's game hitless over his 13 at-bats. The Mets have really relied on Bichette this season, especially with the losses to Francisco Lindor, Jorge Polanco and Luis Robert Jr.

"That's all I want, is to help the team win, it felt good," Bichette said of his four-hit day.

It's been no secret that Bichette has been inconsistent this year and has hit into some hard luck, which is something Mets manager Carlos Mendoza certainly sees out of his third baseman.

"Hopefully, now, he continues to get results and he gets going here. I feel like this guy has been very unlucky, I hate to say it. He's a good hitter," Mendoza said.

The Mets are hoping that he can carry this four-hit game throughout the rest of this West Coast trip and beyond when New York begins a three-game series on Friday against the San Diego Padres.

In 62 games this season with the Mets, Bichette is slashing .226/.280/.310 with five home runs, 31 RBI and a .590 OPS.
