The Boston Red Sox start a series with the Tampa Bay Rays tonight, following taking two of three from the Yankees over the weekend. The Red Sox are reportedly finally making the call and calling up top prospect Roman Anthony for tonight’s game. Wilyer Abreu is heading to the injured list. The Red Sox are also calling up Brian Van Belle from Triple-A Worcester. They are designating Robert Stock for assignment.

Roman Anthony

Anthony, in 58 games this season at Triple-A Worcester, is hitting .288 with a .913 OPS. He has nine doubles, two triples, ten home runs, 29 RBI, 45 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 51 walks. Roman Anthony over the weekend hit a 497-foot Grand Slam. The long-awaited debut will be tonight, with him batting fifth.

Wiley Abreu

Abreu hits the injured list. In 64 games this season, he’s hitting .245 with a .792 OPS. He had eight doubles, 13 home runs, 32 RBI, 28 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 24 walks. Over the weekend, he went 0-5 with an RBI against the Yankees. The move allows a Roman Anthony appearance.

Brian Van Belle

Van Belle has made 12 appearances, with eight of those coming as starts at Triple-A Worcester. He is 5-1 with a 2.29 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts in 51 innings. He last pitched on Wednesday, getting the start. Van Belle went seven innings, giving up one run on five hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out five.

Robert Stock

Stock in two games with the Red Sox posts a 10.13 ERA, a 3.00 WHIP, and one strikeout in 2.2 innings. In 12 games at Triple-A Worcester, he went 3-2 with a 3.09 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and 63 strikeouts in 55.1 innings. He pitched 0.2 innings, giving up two runs on a hit last night. He walked three and struck out one.
