The Atlanta Braves announced a couple of roster moves prior to their series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.

The team is dealing with a plethora of injuries to their catching roster, with starting catcher Drake Baldwin out since May 19.

As well as usual backup Sean Murphy who has been on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left middle finger since May 12. The Braves announced Thursday that Murphy has been transferred to the 60-day injured list; he will not resume baseball activities for several weeks. Outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. was selected to fill the spot on the 40-man roster.

Along with these transactions, The Braves DFA'd catcher Chadwick Tromp after 12 games and called up veteran catcher Austin Wynns.

Wynns spent time in the big leagues this season with the Athletics before being DFA'd and signed by the Los Angeles Angels. The Braves then acquired Wynns from Los Angeles in exchange for cash on Wednesday. In 14 games this season, the 35-year-old slashed .077/.143/.077 with no home runs or RBI.

Wynns has been a sustainable backup catcher for most of his eight year career before struggling to find a spot on a roster this year. He has his next shot now with the Braves.

The Braves are still waiting for the return of starting catcher Baldwin as he is out with a strained right oblique muscle. The team is not trying to rush Baldwin and they expect to see him back in late-June.

Even with the injuries to both their lineup and pitching, the Braves have remained one of the best teams in baseball. They hold a 42-20 record and sit atop of the National League East division by nine games. The team holds the third best OPS in the league with .761. After a disappointing past two seasons that have been full of injuries for the Braves, they finally seem to be back to their winning ways.

With a return of Baldwin and Murphy later this season, the Braves could make a push to a World Series championship. A healthy catching duo of Baldwin and Murphy would be a huge boost for both the Braves lineup and their defense behind the dish.

The Braves take on the Blue Jays in the series finale Thursday at 7:15 P.M. before they welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates for three games starting on Friday night.
