Brewers Make Pitching Decision for MLB Playoffs

The Milwaukee Brewers have a clearer idea of how their postseason rotation will look after a dominant regular season.

Pitching coach Chris Hook said the Brewers have a better sense of their playoff starters than they did last year, when Freddy Peralta was the only clear option before the team had to figure out the rest.

“Last year, it was Freddy [Peralta] and then ‘we’ll figure it out,’” Hook said, via Adam McCalvy. “I think we have a little better sense of who it will be this year.”

Peralta is expected to lead the rotation, while Tobias Myers, Robert Gasser and Logan Henderson give Milwaukee additional options as the club prepares for October.

The Brewers also have another postseason-experienced arm in Dustin May, who was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline along with left-handed reliever JoJo Romero. Milwaukee gave up two premium prospects in the deal with the postseason in mind.

May’s arrival came after the Brewers were unable to acquire Tarik Skubal, making him an important part of their October plans. He has been inconsistent since being hit by a comebacker on his first pitch against the New York Mets on Aug. 26, but the Brewers continue to value his postseason experience.

“The Brewers’ other NLDS starter, unless something changes, will probably be May,” McCalvy reported.

Milwaukee entered Tuesday at 98-58 after clinching the National League Central for the fourth consecutive season. With the division secured, the Brewers can use their remaining regular-season games to manage workloads and prepare their pitching staff for October.

The rotation is not completely set, but Milwaukee now has several established options to build around. The Brewers will have to determine the exact order and roles before the postseason begins.
