As the Cardinals continue to struggle, fans will be left disappointed to know that one of the team’s biggest stars remains sidelined.
Nolan Arenado was once again held out of the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Nationals.

The third baseman, dealing with a right shoulder impingement, missed the final two games of the weekend series against the Cubs. Although the team’s day off on Monday gave him an extra day of rest, it wasn’t enough to get him back in the starting lineup.
Manager Oliver Marmol told reporters that Arenado is feeling better and the team hopes to avoid placing him on the 10-day injured list. However, his status remains uncertain, with more clarity expected Wednesday, according to The Athletic’s Katie Woo.
For now, Arenado is officially listed as day-to-day, while Nolan Gorman fills in at third base and bats fifth. Although, the game has been pushed back due to a weather delay the team recently announced, with more information available soon.
Still, some fans are confused by the club’s approach to the situation.
“Why not just put him on the IL?” one user posted to X. “Something’s clearly wrong. Best not to go with a short bench.”
Another fan echoed the same, “I agree about putting Arenado on the IL. Give him through the All-Star Break to heal.”
The Cardinals have yet to make a final decision, but with the All-Star break approaching, a more definitive update is expected soon to clear up the uncertainty.
Fans are hopeful Arenado will return to the lineup soon, giving Cardinal Nation at least something to cheer about before the break.
