Carlos Correa Had Strong Words After Astros' Fourth Straight Loss

The Houston Astros are holding on to a slim 1.5-game lead over the second-place Seattle Mariners in the AL West with just under two months left in the regular season.

The good news for Houston is that the Mariners were just swept by the Philadelphia Phillies. Unfortunately, the Astros were also swept—by the Detroit Tigers—and have now lost four straight games, failing to add any distance between them and the Mariners.

Although the team has struggled, Correa has been a force offensively since his return to the Astros at the trade deadline. The 30-year-old veteran has posted a .339 batting average, .882 OPS, two home runs, and eight RBIs over 15 games while transitioning to third base full-time.

Carlos Correa Reacts to Astros’ Fourth Straight Loss

After losing the series finale against the Tigers by a final of 7–2, Houston’s two runs in the loss were the only runs the team has scored during this four-game losing streak, having been shut out in the previous three games.

With the offense’s inefficiencies glaring, Correa shared a message via MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart, “We got outplayed. It’s as simple as that. They played better baseball. They played a really good brand of baseball and we didn’t. When you are facing one of the best teams in the league and we don’t show up, that’s going to happen.”

Correa’s Return Brings Veteran Leadership Back to Astros Clubhouse

Correa was brought back to Houston to aid in the second-half push, and he’s made it clear his return meant another voice in the clubhouse. During his first stint with the Astros, Correa made his leadership known throughout multiple postseason runs, with the ultimate run coming in 2017 when they won the World Series.

Over his first seven seasons with the Astros, Correa was exceptional from the moment he took the field, taking home AL Rookie of the Year in 2015. He went on to collect a Gold Glove Award and two All-Star selections before contract talks stalled and he ultimately ended up with the Minnesota Twins before the 2022 season.
