Longtime Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw saw the decision to re-sign with the team as quite simple.

One of the best starters to ever pitch in Major League Baseball, Kershaw might be getting up there in age, but it doesn't take away from what he's done.

And he understands that playing for the Dodgers is an honor, something he doesn't take lightly.

"I don't think I put enough merit on it at times, what it means to be able to be in one organization for your entire career," Kershaw said via MLB.com on Thursday when his new deal became official. "You look at people throughout all of sports that have been able to do that, and it is special, it is."

"I don't want to lose sight of that. Getting to be here for my whole career, however long that is, is definitely a goal," he added.

Kershaw, who signed a one-year, $7.5 million deal, has been with the Dodgers since 2008. He has a 212-94 career record with a 2.50 ERA and 2,968 strikeouts.

His accolades include two World Series championships though injured during the 2024 series, 10 All-Star Game appearances, three CY Young awards, and an MVP. Kershaw dealt with injury during the 2024 season with just seven game appearances, but he feels ready to return and finish his career on a strong note.

"I hope this is the last time I have to rehab. I'm kind of done with that," Kershaw said via MLB.com. "But at the same time, I don't want that to be the reason that I stop playing."
