Cubs Announce Positive Alex Bregman Update

Alex Bregman suffered multiple facial fractures after being hit with a foul ball in the face while standing in the on-deck circle on Sunday.

Initial reports revealed that he would not go on the injured list, and he was hopeful that he could come back for the postseason. Well, Craig Counsell revealed that there's a chance that Bregman could be back before the end of the regular season.

“I think Alex is going to be fine," Counsell said on Tuesday, per ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "He’s planning on playing.”

Counsell noted that the team is not ruling out a regular season return, which means that Bregman will surely be ready for the postseason. The Cubs do not know where they will be seeded or who they will play, but at this point in time it looks like it will be any one of the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres or Philadelphia Phillies.

The Cubs will be trying to finish things out strong and claim the top wild card spot, allowing them to host a best-of-three series at Wrigley Field. They will need Bregman in the lineup if they want to make a deep run.

In the second half, Bregman is slashing .296/.378/.600 with 17 home runs. Bregman had an underwhelming first half, but has quickly reminded fans that he is one of the premier third basemen in the game and was rightfully paid as such.
