Dave Roberts Sheds Light On Reason Behind Chris Taylor's Departure

The Los Angeles Dodgers made an interesting decision when they designated Chris Taylor for assignment last week- a move that was swiftly followed by his release on May 18.

And after sending the veteran utility player some kind words post release, the boss - Dave Roberts, unveiled why the team decided to move on from the 34-year old.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Roberts reflected on the conversation between him and the former Dodger concerning his future.

Chris Taylor Wanted More Playing Time

"It was tough, it was tough. And he handled the conversation really well." Roberts said to the media, "He's had a lot of huge moments for us in the postseason, played in as many games as any Dodger in history as far as the postseason experience."

"He always did what we asked and was always on board. And then, you take what Mary [Taylor] and Chris - what they did for the community with their foundation. And they are just very much givers."

"He wanted an opportunity to play more and if it wasn't going to be here, to play somewhere else. So that's the thought behind how it played out. And I respect him for betting on himself and hopefully he gets an opportunity to play more somewhere else."

Ultimately, on the stacked Dodgers roster the former All-Star, Taylor, was not able to play enough for his liking. And with a batting percentage that is at or below .200 for the first time in a decade - his lowest since his 2015 season on the Mariners, it seems like the veteran may have more luck getting additional playing time elsewhere.
