Dodgers' Dave Roberts Announces Update on Much-Needed Pitcher During Giants Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers have battled injuries to their pitching rotation all season long.

This hasn't stopped LA from continuing to dominate the league and stay atop of a competitive NL West division with a one-game lead over the San Francisco Giants.

As they look to extend that league in the series finale against the Giants on Sunday Night Baseball, manager Dave Roberts gave an update on one much-needed pitcher.

Emmet Sheehan hasn't played in a game for the Dodgers since making a start in the 2023 postseason against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After a partial UCL tear was discovered during 2024 Spring Training, the Dodgers initially opted for a non-surgical approach with Sheehan. However, it didn't work, and he underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2024.

Now, over a year later, Dave Roberts has reported that Sheehan will be returning to the Dodgers rotation this week. Possibly making his return as early as Tuesday or Wednesday.

This is great news for Sheehan and the Dodgers given the current pitching situation the team is in.

While the Dodgers are getting healthier with the returns of relievers Michael Kopech and Kirby Yates, along with franchise cornerstone Clayton Kershaw, they still have 16 pitchers on the injured list awaiting a return.

Evan Phillips, Gavin Stone, and Michael Grove are all expected to miss the 2025 season. However, the Dodgers anticipate the returns of key arms from players like Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani sometime this year.

Emmet Sheehan's return will help narrow down the Dodgers' problems, hopefully getting a new and improved prospect since last seeing him in his rookie season in 2023.

Sheehan has appeared in 13 games in his career, having a 4.92 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and striking out 64 batters in 60.1 innings with a 4-1 record.
