The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to spend money like no other in Major League Baseball. That's important, and if the Dodgers want to continue being the team they're looking to be, it’ll require them to continue doing just that.
However, Los Angeles will also need to continue building its farm system, and it will have an opportunity to do so with the MLB draft approaching.
When looking at who the Dodgers could select, Just Baseball recently predicted them to draft Patrick Forbes, a pitcher out of the University of Louisville.
Forbes, a right-handed starter with above-average stuff, posted a 4.42 ERA this past year. However, he struck out 117 hitters in 71.1 innings, so it's tough to get too concerned with the ERA.
“In my first watch of Forbes this spring, 'Dodger' was the first word that came to my mind. The former Louisville standout has touched triple-digits on the fastball with an athletic, low-launch delivery and boasts promising secondaries. A strong showing in Omaha could vault Forbes even higher, depending on how much teams have confidence in his starter profile,” they wrote.
The Dodgers have the 40th overall pick in the draft, and Forbes is a decent option to consider.
He's shown some impressive signs throughout other parts of his college career, including in the Cape Cod League, widely regarded as the best college league in the world.
In Cape Cod last year for Brewster, he threw 13.2 innings and struck out 22 hitters.
If he can work on some of his walk issues, walking 34 this past year, and continue striking out hitters at a high rate, he'd be a great addition for the Dodgers.
