Geraldo Perdomo ignites D-Backs’ ninth-inning victory with stunning heroics

The D-Backs kept their winning streak alive in incredible fashion after Geraldo Perdomo’s heroics as the roller coaster season for Arizona continues.

Saturday started with Eugenio Suárez continuing his powerful season at the plate, as he hit a three-run home run to left field to get Arizona on the board. Suarez is continuing to embrace the long ball as he smashed his 20th homer of the season.

Zac Gallen looked steady at times, though came apart late while pitching 6.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits. Gallen was hit hard, though was able to navigate through the rough spots unharmed until the seventh inning. Gallen was pulled after the Padres were able to get bases loaded, and shortly after Ryan Thompson entered and Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado had their way as San Diego took a 5-3 lead. More bullpen issues and defensive miscues occurred for Arizona, and the Padres were able to go ahead by a score of 7-3.

The bottom of the ninth inning came with some dramatics, as Arizona was destined to answer back. Pavin Smith, Gabriel Moreno, and Alek Thomas were able to load the bases up, and soon after Ketel Marte was able to hit a ground ball to score Smith and beat out the throw at first by inches. That set the stage for Geraldo Perdomo to have the moment of the night as he smoked a line drive into right field to tie the game up. Right after Josh Naylor was able to hit a ground ball to score Geraldo Perdomo for the game-winning run.

The D-Backs won the series over the Padres and will look to get a sweep on a Father’s Day matinee at Chase Field. The first pitch will be at 1:10 p.m. PT at Chase Field.
