The Boston Red Sox have offloaded many prospects since last year's trade deadline. Despite the continued move for MLB talent, the Red Sox remain one of the top hubs for MLB potential.
MLB Pipeline ranked the Boston Red Sox fourth among farm systems heading into the 2025 season. Boston is considered a top-heavy system, and four players are in MLB.com's top 100 rankings, led by elite outfield prospect Roman Anthony.
Meanwhile, according to Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus, Braden Montgomery enters the year as a top-100 prospect. The Red Sox used a first-round pick on him in the 2024 MLB Draft.

The second overall prospect, Anthony, has a chance to make the Opening Day roster in 2025 following news that fellow outfielder Wilyer Abreu is destined for the IL. Franklin Arias, Kristian Campbell, and Marcelo Mayer round out their star-level prospects.
Having such a sound farm system has allowed the Red Sox to make deals to improve their current team since last season. Nonetheless, they still have top young talent, which should have fans excited about the future.
Last July, Boston shipped four players to the Toronto Blue Jays, including young right-hander Gilberto Batista. Lucas Sims, who had a 0-2 record and 6.43 ERA in 15 games with the Red Sox last year, cost the team another promising righty, Ovis Portes.
In the deal for closer Luis García, the Los Angeles Angels received Ryan Zeferjahn (2.12 MLB ERA in 2024) and 19-year-old starter Yeferson Vargas.
Four highly respected prospects also left the organization this offseason. In the MLB Rule 5 Draft, the Blue Jays snagged Angel Bastardo, now their 27th overall prospect, according to the 2025 rankings on MLB.com.
Boston acquired star lefty pitcher Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox earlier this offseason.
Among the players sent to Chicago was Wikelman Gonzalez, a top-20 prospect with a 3.97 ERA across 392.1 lower-level innings, and top prospects Kyle Teel and Braden Montgomery. A catcher, Teel was a consensus top-five prospect in a loaded Boston system to begin last year.
The second overall prospect, Anthony, has a chance to make the Opening Day roster in 2025 following news that fellow outfielder Wilyer Abreu is destined for the IL. Franklin Arias, Kristian Campbell, and Marcelo Mayer round out their star-level prospects.
Whether these prospects break through and reach the major leagues or are used in potential trades, the future is bright in Beantown.
