Jaun Soto, the owner of the richest contract in North American sports history, has played in just two games for the New York Mets, the team that gave him that rich contract this past offseason, but that's enough time for the superstar outfielder to already be surprised by Mets fans.
The Mets opened the 2025 season on the road against the Houston Astros. After dropping the first game of the series on Thursday, the Mets responded with a 3-1 win on Friday night (thanks in part to Soto's first home run as a Met).

After the game, Soto was asked by Apple TV's Heidi Watney if there's anything that's surprised him since signing with the Mets.
The four-time All-Star told Watney that he's surprised at how many fans the Mets have.
"Just how many fans they have," said Soto. "I'm really surprised at all the fans. And everybody, how they support the team. I mean, we are all the way in Houston and they're still showing up here. I'm impressed by that."

Soto will likely be even more impressed by Mets fans on Saturday when The 7 Line Army -- a large nation-wide group of Mets fans that often "take over" opposing ballparks -- are in attendance for New York's rubber match against the Astros.

Mets fans are among the most passionate and loyal in all of sports. And it didn't take long for Soto to see that with his own eyes.
Just wait until he plays in front of Mets fans in Queens.
